The Nursery

The Nursery

Many of you that follow me on Instagram will know by now that I love everything to do with interior decor. I am now on my second house and have completely redecorated both, so when it came down to designing the nursery I was very excited and started looking at ideas pretty much since we found out I was pregnant!

I browsed Pinterest and Houzz for ideas and one that came up a lot was the star wall:

When I kept seeing this picture pop up, I knew it was what I wanted!
I was undecided whether to find a wallpaper or if I should paint them on. After finding a place online that did the wallpaper but at the cost of something like £95 a roll, I decided that painting them would be the more realistic option.

If the babies were both girls the stars would have been painted in pink (almost the same as above), if they were boy/girl twins then I would have done them in a grey and then accessorised their cots with gender coloured items like blankets etc but as you all know by now, they are both boys; hence the stars being painted blue!

When we found out they were both boys, I went on the hunt for a stencil. I found it on eBay but the company also has a website, www.thestencilstudio.com. In the end I went for this one as I didn't want loads of stars but I did want them to be quite big - http://www.thestencilstudio.com/simple-star-stencil---l-11132-p.asp. This one measures 35.5cm wide and 33.7cm tall. I had a read on their website for the best way to paint them without paint leaking and found that a bristle brush works so I also ordered one for £4.38.

I went into Homebase and found a tester pot of Dulux Authentic Origins Paint called Favourite China. It cost about £2.99 but it did all the stars and I still have almost a whole pot left - you really don't need to put much on.

For the furniture we decided that spending a lot of money on 2 full sets from Mothercare or Mamas and Papas wasn't something we could afford so I found the cots and wardrobes in Ikea; I have to say they look just as nice as ones from anywhere else. We went for the Hensvik range so the cots cost £60 each and the wardrobes £80 each. The wardrobes don't have very nice handles so I bought some new ones on eBay!
We wanted to ensure they had a comfortable and safe mattress so went into Mothercare and bought them for around £35 each.

That is the majority of the nursery done - its just small furnishings now like book shelves etc but I think I may have bored you enough already for one post!
